“行内话”是在实际工作中慢慢形成和固定下来的，但在不同的国家有不同的表述。
譬如我们通常讲的“服装厂”，许多人喜欢采用套用式翻译，将其译成“Garments factory”，虽然不算错，但美国人一般称之为“manufacture of wearing apparel”。通常一看到“经纱”或“经线”，我们脑子里会马上出现“warp”一词，虽然对，但如你跟法国人做生意，“经纱”一词往往用“chaine”来表述。大多数国家将“丙烯酸”英文译成“Acrylic”，但比利时等周边国家喜欢用“Acrylique”一词。
翻译“行内话”还要注重形声词的表达。
如：“voile”译成“巴厘纱”，也就是我们通常所讲的“玻璃纱”；“boude yarn”译成“波形线”；“mohair yarn”译成“马海毛纱”。
“行内话”翻译必须按其“行内话”的特殊表述，不应凭主观臆断。
如“有光毛纱”一词，翻译时不能一看到“有光”就将其译成“bright yarn”，而应译成“luster yarn”；如“lively yarn”一词，英译中时，你可能第一感觉是想译成“活泼的纱”，其实应译为“绉缩纱”，如果你中译英将“绉缩纱”译成英文，决不能想当然地译成“shrink age yarn”。“人造棉”一词我们用的频率较多，国外流行称之为“spunrayon”。
在装饰布行业，“混色纱”一词国内喜欢用“mix colour yarn”，而地道的“行内话”是用“melange yarn”，“heather yarn”或“ingrain yarn”，或可译为“coloured spun yarn”。同样，“混纺纱”一词的“混”完全可以用“union”或“blended”来表述，译成“union yarns”或“blended yarn”，这样译出来，老外看了就会觉得地道，会觉得你懂得“行内话”，与你洽谈业务的信心也会大增。我们通常讲的“精纺毛纱”和“粗纺毛纱”的翻译要避免中国式的英语翻译，前者应译成“worsted yarn”，后者则译成“wollen yarn”；“多色线”和“花色线”不能译成“multicolour yarn”或“colourful yarn”，而应译为“space dyed yarn”。
比如装饰布经常用的“麻棉混纺织品”，大多数书刊上都表述为“ramie／cotton blending textile”。这种译法不妥，因为在中文的表述有其自身的缺陷。“麻棉混纺”在家纺装饰布用得很广，如果给国外客户介绍或用传真、电邮等通讯手段表述，国外客户就会感到很茫然，不敢轻易与你签订合同。一般而言，国外客商除了需要提供样布外，还要求了解样布的组织成分，如果我们只说是“麻棉混纺”的，显然是不足够的，应将中文是什么“麻”讲清楚。“麻”有“苎麻”、“亚麻”、“黄麻”、“洋麻”，如装饰布是用“亚麻”和“纯棉”织造的，就可译为“linen／cotton blending fabrics”；但如果是用“原色亚麻纱”则应译为“flax”；如是“苎麻”和“粘胶纤维”交织的，可译为“ramie／viscose blending fabrics”；如用“黄麻”和“人造棉”交织的，就可译为“jute／spun rayon blending fabrics”；但如译“洋麻”和“粘胶纤维”交织，则必须要弄清是什么类型的“洋麻”。一般译为：“dha／viscose blending fabrics”，但也要弄清楚是什么类型的“洋麻”，如：“India Okra”（印度洋麻）和“cana mode senegal”（古巴洋麻），只有这样明确其麻原料的表述，才能避免因笼统翻译或表述不清造成不应发生的合同纠纷，甚至索赔，从而又规范了“行内话”的翻译。
